Set in the crazed, nationalistic Tokoy of late 1941, this novel explores the coming world war through the other end of history's prism. As a foreginer, the American Harry Niles draws suspicion and disfavor from Japanese police. The mixture of stiff tradition and intrigue, and a Japanese mistress, fills Harry's final days in Tokyo with suspense and fear. On the eve of Pearl Harbor, Harry must decide where his true allegiances lie.
