Digging to America
Sammendrag
Baltimore, 1997. Two families are waiting for their Korean baby girls to arrive - Bitsy and Brad Donaldson and their extended family an all-American party decorated with buttons that read "MOM", "DAD", "GRANDMA" and "GRANDPA"; silver balloons printed with the words "it's a girl!", video cameras, an infant car seat, toys and so on. The other expectant couple, Sami and Ziba Yazdan and Sami's reserved Iranian-born mother, Maryam, linger foreign-looking and balloonless on the sidelines. The two families strike up an improbable friendship, initially based on the desire to help their daughters fit in. But the grown-ups soon find out they are in need of securing their own foothold as well. Through the little girls, they find new directions and purpose in their lives.
