Sammendrag

In 1916 Edvard Munch installed his experimental, expressionist monumental paintings in the University of Oslo's Aula building, after a long and rocky road to their completion. Other artists of Munch's generation, like Gustav Klimt, Puvis de Chavannes and Max Klinger also chose to work for institutions such as universities, museums, libraries, and also met the challenge of creating images understandable to a wider audience. With time one has forgotten the boldness with which Munch made his pictures, and how hard he worked to achieve them being exhibited at all. Munch's laboratory presents recent research and provides the reader with thorough strategies for understanding Munch's radical art. The book is also published in Norwegian and German. Original Norwegian essays and introductory texts have been translated to English by Francesca M. Nichols.
